Abstract

This brief introductory paper summarises the salient coverage in the subsequent ones. It covers:

  1. (i)

the development of shear layers and recirculation zones, under conditions of steady and explosive combustion,

  2. (ii)

the structure of recirculation zones and the role of counter-gradient diffusion, and

  3. (iii)

some aspects of turbulent premixed flames, including mathematical modelling.
