Zusammenfassung

Durch die epidemische Ausbreitung der HIV Infektion waren Maßnahmen zur Diagnose und Verlaufskontrolle dieser Infektionserkrankung dringend erforderlich. Kenntnis der molekularen Struktur des HIV, sowie neue virologische und immunologische Methoden zum Virusnachweis und zur Beurteilung des Krankheitsverlaufes ermöglichen heute eine sichere und frühzeitige Diagnose und Verlaufskontrolle der HIV-1 Infektion. Neue Methoden zum direkten Virusnachweis wie DNA Amplifikation mittels Polymerase-Kettenreaktion (PCR) oder die quantitative Plasmakultur werden in Zukunft die bisher verwendeten, serologischen Testverfahren ergänzen.
