Abstract

We present a diffusion quantum Monte Carlo algorithm for simulating complex systems, such as anyons or systems with external magnetic fields. In this algorithm, anyons are represented as hard-core bosons with an attached (fictitious) statistical flux tube, such that for fermions there is precisely one flux quantum attached to each bare boson. We discuss how this complexity can affect quantum Monte Carlo simulations, and present some results of simulations for small systems. We find that the sampling error due to complex weights can be continuously varied by varying the two kinds of flux (statistical, and.external), and that the two kinds of flux have roughly comparable effects on the sampling error.
