Das Umwelt-Führungs-Informationssystem (UFIS) soll die Führungskräfte des Landes mit bedarfsgerecht aufbereiteten Informationen über den Zustand von Schutzgütern, über die Technosphäre und die Wirkung von Maßnahmen in allen Umweltthemenbereichen versorgen.

Die Vielfalt von umweltrelevanten Daten zu geeigneten Führungsinformationen aufzubereiten, bedarf der Regeln und Standards des UIS, der Anwendung von Methoden und Modellen und fortschrittlicher Hardware- und Softwaretechnologie. Im UFIS sind bereits umfangreiche Datenbestände zu Führungsinformationen durch Abstraktion, Selektion und Aggregation aufbereitet. Die Information wird in Form von thematischen Karten, Tabellen oder Businessgrafik dargestellt, um die Meinungsbildung der Entscheider zu unterstützen.
