Abstract

Two-dimensional imaging of laser resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) is used to obtain angular distributions of neutral molecules which are products of electron stimulated desorption (ESD) and dissociation processes on adsorbatecovered surfaces. Quantum resolution allows the angular distributions to be state-specific. We briefly discuss angular distributions for ESD of metastable CO*(a3Πr,ν=0) and ground-state NO from Pt(111); in addition, we discuss distributions for the NO product of NO2 dissociation on clean and O-covered Pt(111). The results are discussed in terms of desorption mechanisms, dissociative forces, site geometries, and disordered coadsorbate layers.
