Abstract

In higher plants development of the various organs is closely correlated with primary vascularization of the plant body. During regular growth and replacement of the organs, the procambium and cambium continuously produce new vascular elements for the transport of water and nutrients, thereby always maintaining contact to the pre-existing vascular system.
