Die essentielle Hypertonie stellt die weitaus häufigste Hypertonieform dar und wird bei über 90% der Bluthochdruckpatienten gefunden. Das Erkennen sog. sekundärer Hypertonien ist jedoch von großer Bedeutung, da es sich hier zum größten Teil um kausal behandelbare Erkrankungen handelt.
