Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Liver at Low Field Strength

Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the liver has been performed with positive results principally for liver lesion detection and for liver lesion characterization. Series reported in the literature usually refer to experience obtained at high or medium field strength. The results obtained seem comparable to those of contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) for liver lesion detection and are superior to those of CT in the characterization of liver lesions. A clinical role of liver MRI is therefore already proposed and established.
