Mode Conversions in Ionospheric Modification Experiments

Abstract

We investigate resonance excitation of electrostatic and electromagnetic electron cyclotron harmonic waves by mode conversion during the recent ionospheric F-region modification experiments at Tromsø (Norway) and Arecibo (Puerto Rico). Frequency band width for quenching of DM feature in the electromagnetic emission spectra from ionosphere is found to be about a few kHz which is in good agreement with the experimental results.
