Independent-particle Models

Part of the book series: Springer Series in and ((SSNUCLEAR))

Abstract

In this chapter we present briefly the formalism of the Fermi-gas model (Sect. 1.1), the shell model (Sect. 1.2) and the Hartree-Fock method (Sect. 1.3). These examples of models and methods in the framework of the mean-field approximation, as well as the one-body density matrix, and the density and nucleon momentum distributions are necessary to understand how the nucleon-nucleon correlations are described in the remainder of the book.
