Abstract
Multigeneration studies are performed to allow an overall assessment of: gonadal function, estrus cycle, mating behavior, conception, implantation, abortion, embryonic and fetal development, parturition, postnatal survival, lactation, maternal behavior, and postpartum growth. Such an experimental approach is used to evaluate possible reproductive and developmental toxicities of chemicals or environmental xenobiotics, while medicinal products are generally tested with the segment I to III procedure.
