Abstract

Sport training is always connected to objectives that are related to the development of sport performance capacity or to the presentation of sport performances (especially in athletic competitions). Systematic examination of the multitude of phenomena that occur during these presentations can be traced as far back as the ninteenth century in German-speaking countries. Scientists interested in sport from different disciplines, mainly medicine, but sometimes from physics and later on psychology as well, attempted to explain training effects and athletic movement sequences according to the model conception of their science. Specific empirical studies examining these models appeared very rarely. At the same time, sport practitioners oriented toward training methods published information related to training in specific types of sport, which they derived from their own training experiences, observation of other athletes, or from scientific knowledge.
