Epidemiology of Lyme Borreliosis

  • Chapter
Book cover Aspects of Lyme Borreliosis

Abstract

The aim of an epidemiological consideration of Lyme borreliosis is the description of the frequency of the disease with respect to its causative agent (Flamm 1986). It deals with questions concerning the sources, route, and the target of the infection. All living beings in whom the causative agent exists and multiplies are designated as the infection source. The infection route relates to the possibilities which the agent has of spreading from the source to the next susceptible human host, which represents the target of infection.
