The System Game as a Research Paradigm for Self-Organization Processes in Complex Social Systems

Abstract

In the present contribution the research paradigm of system gaming is outlined and integrated into the theoretical framework of psychological synergetics. Questions concerning the theoretical and empirical conceptualization of the order and control parameters governing the self-organizing processes which occur during the course of a system game will be discussed. A multi-method approach at evaluating intrapersonal processes of coping with stress and stressful emotions as well as the dynamics of interpersonal communication will be suggested. In the second part we will describe the empirical results obtained from the implementation of a system game scenario (“youth home scenario”), revealing not only the differing dynamics of coping with stress within the professional subsystem as opposed to the subsystem of the problem persons, but also the dynamics of the interactions between the participants involved.
