Abstract
A recurrent problem in the design of intelligent tutoring systems is the difficulty of obtaining the student models required by the systems. This paper describes a prototype knowledge acquisition system under development for use in an experimental program (the European Delta project Nat*Lab) intended to evaluate and refine a proposed methodology for performing student model acquisition. The requirements of the methodology and the way that they are realized in the prototype are discussed in detail.
