Zusammenfassung
Durch die Reorganisation der Rettungsdienste und durch eine Verschiebung des Unfallgeschehens gelangen immer mehr polytraumatisierte Patienten zur Behandlung. Ihr Schicksal hängt davon ab, wie gut die verschiedenen Schädigungen erkannt und wie zuverlässig die Schwere des Verletzungsgrades eingeschätzt wird. Die Letalität schwankt je nach Definition zwischen 25 und 70%. Polytraumatisierte sind einerseits durch die erlittenen Verletzungen, andererseits durch den damit verbundenen traumatisch-hämorrhagischen Schock und die daraus resultierenden pathologischen Verläufe vital gefährdet.
