Abstract

Most pathologists agree that gastric dysplasia, or epithelial dysplasia of the stomach, is an important precancerous change within the stomach. There is, however, much confusion about the nomenclature to be used for such changes. The term “gastric dysplasia” was proposed by a WHO Workshop on Histological Criteria of Precancerous Change of the Stomach in 1978, and it has since been used widely by pathologists [3, 5, 18–21, 27, 32, 38, 45].
