Zusammenfassung
Entsprechend den Empfehlungen der Weltgesundheitsorganisation ist die Normotonie mit Blutdruckwerten unter 140/90 mmHg definiert. Unter Ruhebedingungen liegt eine stabile arterielle Hypertonie unabhängig vom Lebensalter dann vor, wenn der systolische Blutdruck konstant 160 mmHg und/oder der diastolische Blutdruck konstant 95 mmHg beträgt oder überschreitet. Der zwischen den beiden angegebenen Blutdruckgrenzen liegende Bereich wird als Grenzwerthypertonie bezeichnet. Neuerdings wird die arterielle Hypertonie jedoch anders eingeteilt, und zwar in ein mildes, mittelschweres und schweres Stadium, je nach Höhe des diastolischen Blutdruckes. Die Tabelle 1 (nach Klaus 1987) gibt auf dieser Grundlage einen Vorschlag zur Einteilung und Klassifizierung der chronischen arteriellen Hypertonie wieder. Dabei wird auch die isolierte systolische Hypertonie berücksichtigt.
