Abstract

A miniature niobium d.c. SQUID magnetometer into which feedback flux is coupled by direct current injection is described. Its sensitivity in flux-locked loop operation is shown to be indistinguishable from that obtained using an external coil for feedback flux coupling. The field sensitivity is below \(21{\text{pT/}}\sqrt {{\text{Hz}}} \) for frequencies greater than 1 Hz and the energy sensitivity at 1 kHz is 210 times Planck’s constant, h.
