Abstract

It is demonstrated that resonance CARS is suitable for investigations of the light sensitive bio-molecules 20-chloro-chlorophyll and phytochrome both bearing a strong fluorescence. Short lived photoisomers of cyanine dyes exhibiting the same molecular structure but different lengths of the methine chains are investigated by time resolved resonance CARS spectroscopy. Using a normal coordinate analysis the photoisomers are identified as 1,2-mono-cis isomers which are generated independent of the chain length up to heptamethine.
