Abstract

The compound Pb2Sr2ACu3O8+δ (A: lanthanide Ln or Y) is characterized by double CuO2 pyramidal layers and an almost oxygen-free CuOδ layer, where the valences of Cu are about +2 and +1, respectively. The CuOδ layer can accomodate extra oxygen up to δ~2. Pb2Sr2ACu3O8 is insulating, but T appears when holes are doped by the partial substitution of Ca for A. The extra oxygen is also expected to introduce holes into the CuO2 layer, as observed in YBa2Cu3O6+δ. Here, we study transport and magnetic properties of Pb2Sr2Y1−xCaxCu3 O8+δ in the wide compositional range of x and δ [1,2].
