Abstract

The phonons in high superconducting transition temperature electron superconductor Nd2-xCexCuO4 have been investigated using an angular force model. For the first time, an attempt has been made to determine the interatomic force constants from the observed Raman and infrared results in terms of analytical expressions. A set of interatomic force constants cannot be obtained if we try to fit the Raman forbidden frequency B2u. Leaving aside this frequency, the force constants are obtained which give this frequency a lower value than the observed one. The agreement obtained for the rest of the zone centre frequencies with the observed Raman and infrared results is satisfactory.
