‚General practice’ requires some sort of definition if what follows is to make sense. For the purposes of this contribution it refers to those doctor-provided services which are directly accessible to the public and which are prepared to deal in the first instance with any problem which is presented. It has to deal not only with cancer and heart disease but also with ‚my budgerigar has died’.
