Electron impact ionization of multiply charged ions

  • Conference paper
Book cover Atomic Physics of Highly Charged Ions

Abstract

This paper gives a brief review of the physics of electron impact ionization. Some of the latest accomplishments in both theory and experiment are discussed. The focus is on results for the isoelectronic sequences of H-like, Li-like and Na-like ions and in particular on the combination and relative importance of direct versus indirect ionization mechanisms. The discussion also includes complex many-electron systems.
