Abstract
These lesions occur when human adenovirus type 12 (Huie strain) is administered in high doses intraocularly to CD rats (Kobayashi and Mukai 1973, 1974). They also appear in hamsters inoculated intraocularly as newborns with JC (human papovavirus) (Ohashi et al. 1978). The gross appearance is that of a gray-pink, soft, mottled mass extending into the vitreous. In larger tumors, neoplastic cells invade the anterior chamber producing dislocation or damage of the lens. The tumor may extend extraorbitally into the optic nerve. Necrosis of these cells tends to occur at the posterior edge of the ciliary body.
