Abstract
Burns induced by causes other than thermal injuries such as chemical, electric, and irradiation burns, are defined as burns of special causes. Generally, burns of special causes only account for a small proportion of burns — usually about 15% of the cases treated at a burn center. With the development and popularization of modern technology in industrial plant and in research as well as in the home, the incidence of burns of special causes is likely to increase.
