Abstract

The spectrum of fungal infections associated with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) has greatly contributed to our understanding of the complex interactions between host defences and fungal organisms. The mycoses strictly related to the depletion of the T-helper lymphocytes are mucocutaneous candidiasis, cryptococcosis, and the infections caused by dimorphic fungi such as blastomycosis, coccidoidiodomycosis, histoplasmosis, paracoccidioidomycosis, penicilliosis, and sporotrichosis.
