Zusammenfassung
Jungs Ansichten zur Psychologie der Männlichkeit unterscheiden sich in einigen grundlegenden Aspekten von den klassisch psychoanalytischen Konzepten. So versprechen Jungs Theorien in einer zwar psychologischen Sprache, aber letztlich doch in einem religiösen Sinne die Erfüllung von Wünschen, während sich die Psychoanalyse ausdrücklich dieses Versprechens enthält. Ein Anhänger der psychoanalytischen Methode hofft auf Verständnis; ein Anhänger der Jungschen „analytischen Psychologie“ hofft auf Erlösung. Das größte Interesse der Psychoanalyse galt traditionell den Neurosen, die durch Verdrängung und Abwehr innerhalb eines im wesentlichen schon konsolidierten Selbst charakterisiert sind. Das größte Interesse der Jungschen Psychologie richtete sich neben dem religiösen Erleben mehr auf die schweren psychotischen, Borderline- und narzißti-schen Pathologien, deren zentrales Problem in dem Erreichen eines stabilen und geeinten Selbst besteht (Satinover 1980, 1984, 1985a, 1985b).
