Zusammenfassung
1905 entdeckte Freud die Existenz eines kindlichen Sexuallebens, das seinerseits Auswirkungen auf die sexuellen Einstellungen des Erwachsenen habe (Freud 1905d). Er wurde sich bald der Mängel und Unklarheiten seiner Theorie bewußt. So bekundete er im Vorwort zur 2. Auflage seiner Drei Abhandlungen zur Sexualtheorie den ernsthaften Wunsch, daß dieses Buch schnell altern werde und daß das, was einst neuartig war, allgemein akzeptiert, und das, was ungenügend war, durch etwas Besseres ersetzt werde. Obschon viele der Freudschen Theorien der Zeit standgehalten haben, hat es einige Revisionen, Verbesserungen und Erweiterungen, so wie es sich Freud erhofft hatte, gegeben. Eine der vielleicht wichtigsten Veränderungen besteht in der Aufgabe der ausschließlichen Betrachtung der Triebentwicklung zugunsten einer Sichtweise, nach der sexuelle und aggressive Regungen nur einige von einer Anzahl sich beeinflussender, variabler und ineinanderwirkender Entwicklungslinien sind (A. Freud 1963). Zusätzlich zur Beachtung sukzessiv aufeinanderfolgender Entwicklungsstadien müssen wir verstehen, wie die Triebe im Kontext wichtiger Beziehungen zu anderen strukturiert werden und was sie in Verbindung mit den Objektbeziehungen zur Bildung eines gesunden Selbstgefühls beitragen.
