Clinical Results with the Implanted Cardioverter Defibrillator

  • Conference paper

Abstract

Since its inception, investigators have been eager to explore the question “What is the impact of the automatic implanted cardioverter defibrillator, (ICD), on the management of patients with life threatening ventricular arrhythmias?” Several questions have been posed including:

  1. 1)

Does the device reduce the incidence of sudden out-of-hospital death?

  2. 2)

    Does the device improve survival?

  3. 3)

How does it compare to pharmacologic, ablative, and other surgical therapies?
