Abstract
Patients treated with intravenous thrombolytic agents for acute stroke due to atherosclerotic disease are not without risk for bleeding, and a number of studies in which cerebral and extracerebral hemorrhages have occurred as a complication of the therapy have been reported. Ascertaining the correct dose of a drug to obtain recanalization of an occluded intracerebral artery with an acceptably low hemorrhagic risk is therefore an important aim of any study in which the effectiveness of thrombolytic therapy is to be assessed.
