Abstract

This paper focuses on selected results of a 1985–86 survey of ethical decision-making among 682 geneticists in 19 nations. The entire survey has appeared elsewhere (Wertz and Fletcher 1989, Wertz et al. 1990); in what follows I have selected those issues most germane to psychiatry. A few non-psychiatric examples, such as population screening for cystic fibrosis, have been included, because these represent generic issues (e.g., mandatory versus voluntary screening) that can also be applied to psychiatry.
