Abstract

Japan through its history has been ruled by a central government (“shogu-nate”) which usually succeeded to control the rivalries of the feudal lords. After the great civil war from 1570 to 1600, the Tokugawa rule accustomed Japan to an allmighty administration located in Edo, today’s Tokyo (“Edo period”, 1600 – 1867).
