Effect of Ionizing Radiation
Connective tissue is one of the most radiation-resistant components of the body. Since the discovery of X-rays and radioactivity, many investigations have been undertaken, and the effect of ionizing radiation on living matter has been considered at many levels, ranging from the complex living body down to simple molecules and water itself. The radiobiological effects on collagen have been investigated both in vitro and in vivo; the early findings in this field are reviewed by Bailey (1968 a).
