Abstract
The urinary and reproductive systems have different functions but a common embryological development, and they are known as the genitourinary system. In all vertebrates, these two systems originate from the mesoderm and in humans as well as in higher mammals undergo complex developmental changes. The common development produces several interactions of the systems, especially noted in the pathology. In the male, the systems are not fully separated (semen passes through the urethra), while in the female, they are morphologically separated. The urinary system is relatively similar in both sexes, while the reproductive system is obviously different.
