Abstract
We present an optical space-division switch which is based on Er-doped fiber amplifiers. The pumping light as the control signal contains interconnection information. The properties of pulse pumped Er-doped fiber amplifiers and the design of a large matrix switch arc discussed. The performance of a 1×2 switch is demonstrated.
