Abstract

I. Blaszek et al. measured 1,25(OH)2,D3 levels in blood and bone marrow plasma in 35 cases of MDS and 25 cases of AML. Low levels in marrow plasma were found in 18 cases of MDS and 17 cases of AML. Levels correlated with stromal CFU numbers in MDS and with CFU-GM and CFU-L numbers in AML. Patients with high marrow plasma levels in AML were resistant to treatment with vitamin D3. The difficulty in this study was to establish that marrow plasma was not contaminated with blood plasma.
