Zusammenfassung
Tumorwachstum und Tumorausbreitung sind komplexe Vorgänge, die zum einen durch die Zelle selbst bedingt sind, im weiteren aber aus einer Interaktion von Tumor und Organismus resultieren. Wachstum und Zellteilung erfolgen in zyklischen Ablauf, wobei die Zeiträume entsprechend der Zellart unterschiedlich ausfallen. Es werden folgende Phasen unterschieden:

M-Phase: Mitose und Zytokinese,
-
G1-Phase: postmitotisches Intervall zwischen der Beendigung der Teilung und dem Eintritt der DNA-Synthese,
-
S-Phase: Zeitraum der DNA-Synthese,
-
G2-Phase: Periode vom Ende der DNA-Verdopplung bis zum Beginn der nächsten Mitose,
-
G0-Phase: Ruhepause.
