Abstract

Prosthetic replacement following excision of sarcomas around the knee is a limbsparing procedure that can maintain function while allowing the achievement of a wide surgical margin. The success of this procedure often depends upon management of the soft tissue defect that can occur with tumor excision or of the defect that can occur secondary to postoperative wound necrosis in patients on chemotherapy. The purpose of this study is to determine if free tissue transfer is effective in providing initial coverage and in managing postoperative wound complications that might otherwise prohibit a limb-sparing procedure.
