Abstract
The origin of surgery dates back a few thousand years, the development of surgery on joints however only about one hundred years. Over a period of 50 years a multiple number of operative procedures have been described to achieve stabilisation of the so-called “ACL-deficient knee” (anterior-cruciate-ligament-deficient knee). The effective development of the surgery on the knee joint up to today’s standards does not reach back more than 25 years. Especially the introduction of anaesthesia and the consequent development of the vital precondition for a minimal contamination with germs gave the surgery of ligamentous injuries of the knee-joint important impulses.
