Histology of Aramide Cords (Kevlar {R}) Used as a Cruciate Knee Ligament Substitute in the Sheep

  • Conference paper
Medical Textiles for Implantation

Summary

A higher porosity of the graft fabric could certainly improve the healing, that is the incorporation of the entire graft in a connective tissue body and subsequently in an osseous matrix, of aramide cords (KEVLAR {R}), used as a cruciate knee ligament substitute in the sheep.

Accelerated healing could probably also reduce biodegradation of superficial aramide fibers, through the early replacement of macrophages by connective tissue and osteoprogenitor cells.
