Motor Evoked Potentials Following Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Cervical Myelopathy

Abstract

Transcranial magnetic stimulation is now considered a useful electrophysiological technique for evaluating central motor tracts. We investigated the latency of the motor evoked potential (MEP) following magnetic stimulation in normal subjects and in patients with cervical myelopathy. It was suggested from our results that the latency of the MEP following scalp or spinal stimulation increased in patients with cervical myelopathy. The purpose of this report is to show the results of measurement of the magnetic MEP latency after scalp, spinal, Erb’s point, and elbow stimulation in healthy subjects and in patients with cervical myelopathy.
