Abstract

The introduction of ultrasonography (US) into clinical practice has profoundly modified and facilitated the study of the gastroenterology patient. The most recent and important developments in the method are represented by echo-guided biopsy, echoendoscopy, echo Doppler, and therapeutic and operational US. These subjects are dealt with in detail by other authors in this volume; we limit our discussion to recent applications of diagnostic US with regard to gastroenterology.
