Abstract

Producing liquid steel at minimal cost is an important problem for an integrated steel-producer. At ARBED (Luxembourg) this involves expenditures of approx.. 2 billion Flux/month (approx. 50 million US$/month — direct costs only) and has been the subject of an optimization-model for over 50 years.
