Special Problems of the Diabetic Patient

  • Chapter
Critical Leg Ischaemia

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a common disease in the western world, affecting 2–5% of the general population. An important complication of the disease is the development of ulcers and gangrene of the lower limb. The management of these patients is an enormous health problem due to their long periods as in-patient and an amputation rate about 15 times higher than in non-diabetic subjects [1].
