Abstract

The major problem in reconstructive operations on the peripheral nerve is the lack of a sufficient number of autologous nerve grafts. In the past 10 years the number of transplantations of allogenic organs has increased as new immunosuppressive drugs and knowledge of genetic and immunological backgrounds have made possible better results in transplantation surgery. Therefore the demand for transplantations of other tissues such as nerves is becoming more interesting and important.
