Abstract
This report originated in the work of four Intercity Meetings held in different geographical areas of Europe from December 1986 to June 1988. Current strategies of treatment were discussed with varying emphasis on the main clinical situations. Each successive meeting reflected many different points of view, but also variations in attitude due to new information becoming available for some of the later meetings. Since the main contribution to these initiatives was that of medical oncologists and haematologists, a further effort has been required in this report to consider other aspects such as those related to the epidemiological dimensions of the problem, pathology, radiotherapy, treatment of paediatric cases. Moreover, treatment of elderly patients and of patients with HIV infection has received special attention
