Abstract
In contrast to psychiatry, genetics has a powerful theory to offer which can explain various phenomena of the biological basis of many diseases. Genetics uses information from different fields (epidemiology; onto- and phylogeny; formal, biochemical, and molecular genetics; population genetics) and can integrate this information into a general theory of disease etiology and pathogenesis (Vogel 1982). Genetics is becoming the general theory of medicine.
