Abstract

The analysis of the deviations of galaxy isophotes from pure ellipses has greatly contributed to the growing idea that ellipticals constitute a composite, non-homogeneous family, in which ‘boxy’ and ‘pointed’ E’s represent independent physical classes (Bender et al. 1989, and references therein).
