Optical Structure of Blue Compact Galaxies

For only a few blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDG’s, Thuan & Martin 1981) detailed optical surface photometry exists (c.f. Kunth et al. 1988, Loose & Thuan 1986). Optical surface photometry is an important tool to derive the structure of the underlying galaxies in BCDG’s and, together with data from other spectral ranges, to set up constraints for theoretical models (Loose & Fricke 1981) studying the mechanisms of the star formation bursts and chemical evolution of BCDG’s.
